February is a busy and meaningful month here in Kanata–Carleton, with many opportunities to come together, celebrate our community, and recognize the people who make it such a special place to live.I always enjoy this time of year, when we see neighbours connecting through local events, cultural celebrations, and volunteer initiatives. The Carp Winter Carnival

The Carp Winter Carnival is returning for 2026, bringing another weekend of winter fun and community spirit to West Carleton. This long standing local tradition features activities for all ages and is a great way to enjoy the season while connecting with neighbours.

Fitzroy Harbour Winter Carnival and Snow Pitch Tournament

The Fitzroy Harbour Winter Carnival returns this month, including the always popular Snow Pitch Tournament on February 21. It is a fun and uniquely local winter tradition that brings neighbours together for fresh air, friendly competition, and plenty of community spirit. Lunar New Year Celebration

Kanata Chinese Seniors Support Centre will be hosting its 2026 Lunar New Year Celebration later this month. Lunar New Year is a time of renewal, reunion, and cultural tradition, and this event offers a wonderful opportunity for the broader community to come together and celebrate.

The celebration will take place on Sunday, February 22, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the John G. Mlacak Community Centre.

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Stittsville Volunteer Awards

This is an opportunity to recognize individuals, youth, seniors, teachers, businesses, and community groups who truly make a difference, organized by Councillor Glen Gower and the City of Ottawa. If someone is already coming to mind, please take a moment to nominate them before February 27. Coldest Night of the Year

On February 28, many in our community will be walking in support of Coldest Night of the Year, raising awareness and funds for local organizations that support people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. Update from the Underground (Diefenbunker)


Winterlude 2026 is on, and the Diefenbunker: Canada's Cold War Museum is always a great place to visit this time of year. From January 30 to February 15, there are hands on activities, winter crafts, and a chance to learn more about Indigenous culture with Makatew Workshops.
