MPP KAREN MCCRIMMON NEWSLETTER - april 2026
The arrival of April surely means that warmer weather is just around the corner. I am looking forward to the renewed sense of energy that spring brings to our community.
There are so many opportunities this month for neighbours to come together, celebrate, volunteer, and support one another. From local events to community initiatives, these moments of connection continue to make Kanata–Carleton such a special place to call home.
I would like to wish everyone celebrating a very happy Easter. I hope this season brings you time to connect with loved ones and enjoy all that spring has to offer.
I look forward to seeing many of you out in the community in the weeks ahead. As always, if my office can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Karen McCrimmon

In the Legislature
Fix OSAP ASAP!
Back in the Legislature, I asked the Minister of Colleges and Universities why this government is making it harder for students to access post secondary education.
Students need to go to school to learn the skills and trades that will help all Ontarians. OSAP is a lifeline for many, and for low and middle-income students, grants are the difference between accessing post secondary education or not attending at all.
Why is the Premier making it harder for young people in Ontario to build a better future?
Fix OSAP ASAP!

In Our Community
Standing up for Kanata’s greenspace
Thank you to the Kanata Greenspace Protection Coalition and everyone who helped organize the rally, and to everybody who came out.
This is exactly what we need to do. We need to send a message loud and clear that
the planned changes to the Kanata Greenspace will be devastating to our watershed.
Together, we will bring this to an end and build a better future for everybody here in Kanata.

Celebrating Our Local Paralympians
So proud of the incredible Canadian Paralympians from our community who represented Canada at the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games!
Collinda Joseph, Emma Archibald, and Tyrone Henry have each shown such dedication, resilience, and heart to reach this stage, and it means so much to see them representing not only our country, but our community as well.
Collinda Joseph helped lead Canada’s wheelchair curling team to a gold medal and Tyrone Henry on Canada’s para ice hockey team brought home silver.
What an inspiration to all of us. Please join me in congratulating them and cheering on the entire Canadian Paralympic Team!
Supporting Skills Development in Kanata-Carleton
I recently met with Contact North | Contact Nord to discuss access to education and training opportunities in Kanata-Carleton. We spoke about the barriers some residents face when looking to upgrade their skills, particularly when balancing work and family responsibilities. I will continue working to support opportunities that help residents succeed close to home.
March for Meals
It was a pleasure to join the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre for their March for Meals event at Hollyer House. Thank you to the staff and volunteers for the warm welcome and for sharing their time and experiences. It was wonderful to learn more about how Meals on Wheels supports seniors and residents living with disabilities. I am grateful to everyone involved for their dedication and for the difference they continue to make in our community.
Women of Wonder Event
It was an honour to attend the Women of Wonder (WOW)event as Chief Guest and wow! Huge shout out to Shefali Adhikari for organizing such an inspirational event. To the army of volunteers, sponsors, and fellow Women of Wonder, I am still in awe of the power of last evening’s event. Congratulations to Dr. Marina S Suri on the soft launch of your new book Optimize Your Fertility Naturally. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in this powerful event. Wow, and wow again!
